Currently Listening: Atlas Sound covering soul songs for his dad
From one of the virtual EPs that Bradford Cox releases on the Deerhunter blog, here's the "Two Songs For My Dad EP". It's raining out and these seem perfect for the day.
"I covered two of my Dad's favorite songs. My dad likes depressing songs. He is not a depressed guy, unless the Braves are losing."
1. I'm So Lonesome (I Could Cry)
2. Blue Moon

And here's a cover of Unchained Melody he did as well. Good stuff.

iamamiwhoami
So a few weeks ago the video titled "prelude-699130082451322" (as posted here) started making the rounds around the interweb. Since then there's been three more of these released, with the newest one in short, being really fucking awesome. Each of these are revealing a little more although it's still hard to tell where these are coming from. The numbers in the title have been rumored to go with corresponding letters but I have absolutely no idea how to start deciphering that. So far people have been throwing out names like Christina Aguilera, Goldfrapp, and Lady Gaga (please god, don't let it be her), but who knows. I was hoping the first one was going to be sort of a preview of the Animal Collective visual album, "ODDSAC", but turns out that wasn't true at all (NYC screening soon!). I do however hope it's someone in pop culture though, and if it's not I hope they break into pop culture because of this. I think it'd be exciting to see more creativity going on in that realm. Anyhow check them out below, and pray to god that it's not Lady Gaga.

Snow Tones Preview
So here's the final product (finalllyyy) of the Smolder release, Snow Tones. The name Snow Tones has somewhat of a double meaning on both the visual and sonic level. Visually it reminds me of the feeling of staring at bright snow too long that you start to see colors, and sonically it sounds like a crowded subway in the winter, or being snowed in (depending on what song you listen to of course). Not exactly party jams, more of headphone music. Anyhow, enough talking.
Edition of 50 copies, each cd is hand crafted and contains 8 tracks. $8.00 Price includes shipping. $6.00 if you're in the tri-state or see me whenever.
In other news, workin on a few other ideas. Have the urge to stay inside and make stuff with all this snow out. Accordians or something.

Moonface
Thought this has gone relatively unnoticed, but Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown/Swan Lake member, Spencer Krug has released another side project under the name Moonface. The EP is available now, and you can also download it here for a name your own price donation (which also includes the dollar amount of zero). The EP is titled "Dreamland: marimba and shit-drums", and consists of one 20 minute song of Spencer playing just that--minus the shit part of course. The site is also pretty well done. It includes a journal of dreams which you can click on and read, and which I'm assuming is included with the actual physical EP (or at least I hope it is in some cool packaging or book or something). Anyhow, take a listen, it served as some good background music today.
