DR004: Smolder, A Glance A Word

Here are the first two songs from the full-length I'm planning on putting out later in the month. It was time to just put them out there instead of changing them every week like I've been doing. I'm pretty happy with them though and I hope you enjoy them as well. Originally I felt like they had a winter feel to them, but now that I finished them in the early summer, listening to them at night with the AC going just sounds right for them. Have a listen below and you can also download it here.

Tracklist:
1. A Glance, A Word
2. You're Mine

Gold Mold/Smolder/////Wings+Sails

The muddy psych folk of Gold Mold meets the odd acoustics of some early Smolder tracks on this split cassette. Each cassette is stamped and wrapped in Jaipur paper and hemp. Free to download, but for $5 you'll get the cassette plus some other goods along with it. Also, if you were ever a fan of finding secret tracks on albums, you'll be psyched on downloading this guy.

We're also working out the details on the listening party/show/bbq. More info on that soon. Enjoy the music.

Download here.

Wings+Sails Update

Just a little update for those of you inquiring about the Gold Mold/Smolder split. Packaging is done and done. We're working on getting everything in order online and it will be released sometime next week. It will be downloadable for free and there will some extra goodies in there with the download (remember secret songs?). The cassette will also be available for purchase, and will be well worth your order (again, more goodies. I hate that word now). And to help celebrate this little collaboration between Eric and I, we'll be having a show/bbq at the end of August. It will be at my backyard/basement and will be a night of awesomeness, that is for surely. We have some cool ideas in the works.

Here's a preview and the first track from my side:

DR001: Smolder, Audrey

I'm proud to announce the digital release of some new material I've been working on. Where as earlier songs were live or composed from early recordings and then spliced and tweaked around, this release is me actually sitting down and recording in front of my computer. Feels good starting from scratch again. I'm not sure if I'm planning on doing another digital release soon, but expect a full album late summer/early autumn. Playing live is also in the works as well.

The first song is called "Audrey" and the second is a cover of "Love Me Tender" by Elvis Presley (which you can think of as the b-side to the single). I don't normally sing and probably won't on future songs (audibly, at least), but I thought I'd give it a try so bare with me. I had the idea to cover this song after hearing it on the radio at 6:00 AM when the sun was coming up and I tried to get that same feeling across in the song. The album artwork is from some old polaroids I found at my grandmas house and the girl in the photos is actually my aunt. I like that there's some meaning behind them as opposed to using an old photo of someone I don't even know. Hope you enjoy it.

Listen and download for free at Bandcamp
(Listening with good speakers or headphones is recommended. There are some low frequencies that don't come across well on laptop speakers.)

Started dubbing tapes for the Wings+Sails cassette. Tedious to say the least. I'll post a picture of the packaging as soon as I get a few done. The cassette will be available as a digital download as well, but then you won't have the ability to say that you have a really cool blue cassette with really awesome music on it. You can preview all of the tracks at the same time below, which I must say, sounds rad in its own right.

Smolder Previews

Started working on some new Smolder stuff. Although it'll be quite less acoustic than what's going to be on the split with Gold Mold, it's still in the same vein somewhat (or so I'd like to think). Here's a pic of the messy set up I'm working with:

More electronics than previous stuff but still keeping it analog as well. You can preview a live excerpt of "Go Home" and a demo of "Wind Collar" on the Myspace. These are in their infant stage, so bare with me. Hopefully I'll get around to playing these live soon.

Crypt Trip Update

Eric has been posting photos from his travels over the past few months, and the most current set of photos consists of some cross country freight riding. I'm pretty sure he's around Florida right now, but I could be completely wrong at this point. Expect some cool things once he gets back east. I'll post a preview of the Smolder/Gold Mold cassette soon. It's towards the finishing stages of recording and packaging ideas. Until then, peep The Crypt Trip.

Also, we finally got the interweb at the new apt. It was sort of nice being removed from it for a little while, but now I'm back to ruining my eyes like usual.

Have fun out there, babe.

Printed up some one pagers to hand out at the Skate Rock event at the Autumn bowl on Tuesday night. I've posted the drawing before but I decided to make something with it for fun. Everyone had a good time and got a chuckle or two out of it. You should be able to pick one up at a local shop or two next week. Ignore my weathered iPod player in the background.

Sorry for the lack of updates, just moved into a new place and its been hectic. Although, new place means new furniture, and that makes it worth it.
Also, check out flicks from the event by our pals at nyskateboarding.com, here.

Mini Preview: "I Seen You."

Here's a mini preview of our new zine, "I Seen You." It's based on the Subway Sketches I've been doing, but I've expanded it to drawing people wherever. Check out some examples below:

The zine is 12 pages and is printed in an edition of 80. I'll be giving some away and they are now also being sold at Desert Island Books in Brooklyn. Or if you feel like PayPal-ing it, click the button below.

Update: Line en Route, Gold Mold/Smolder split

Been working on a new accordion style zine. Tentative title is "Line en Route". This is pretty close to being done and will probably be in an edition of 50.

Also, expect a Gold Mold/Smolder split cassette sometime in the near future. Get excited, radical things on the horizon.

And thanks for the Smolder support, you know who you are.

Snow Tones Preview

So here's the final product (finalllyyy) of the Smolder release, Snow Tones. The name Snow Tones has somewhat of a double meaning on both the visual and sonic level. Visually it reminds me of the feeling of staring at bright snow too long that you start to see colors, and sonically it sounds like a crowded subway in the winter, or being snowed in (depending on what song you listen to of course). Not exactly party jams, more of headphone music. Anyhow, enough talking.

Edition of 50 copies, each cd is hand crafted and contains 8 tracks. $8.00 Price includes shipping. $6.00 if you're in the tri-state or see me whenever.

In other news, workin on a few other ideas. Have the urge to stay inside and make stuff with all this snow out. Accordians or something.

Tompkins Square Doc.

A few months ago I did the music for a film that Bill Pierce was working on and we just got it back the other day. The film was for a festival where the object was to shoot one roll of film and send it to them undeveloped with a soundtrack/voiceover to go with it, and hopefully everything lines up correctly, or decent enough that its coherent. So I worked on the song and Bill did the voiceover while pieces of drywall were falling on us from a leak in my ceiling. We crossed our fingers, and everything turned out ok. Check it out below.

Project Update

Here's a little taste of what we've been working on over the past few weeks. Some things are closer to completion than others, but we're still happy with the progress thus far.

Started painting, cutting and folding possible covers for the Smolder EP. Still working out some details with this one, but we think that this will generally be what it'll look like.

If we go this route it'll probably a limited run of 30 or so. Unless we figure out a way to print it without sacrificing the texture of the water color paper that isn't too costly. This is still in the process of being recorded, but I'll throw up some mp3 previews before it comes out.

Black and white preview of the Sleep Light zine, complete with belly band. Wish there was a different name for that, makes me think of pregnant women or something. This will hopefully out and printed by the end of the month.

Working out the kinks with the "Win Some, Lose Most" poster. These are just rough drafts. Certain things with this one might change from what's pictured here, but nonetheless, this is where we're at so far--figuring out folds and printing options. Really looking forward to the final product if all goes as planned.

So that's all for now. Stay dry, friends.
